Abstract

The large number of buildings and housing that have been built by opening up land
on a large scale has resulted in the reduction and elimination of green open areas
in the city of Surabaya. The need for social needs related to the large population
living in the city of Surabaya demands public facilities such as burial grounds which
must also be met when green open areas are starting to decrease. Many burial
grounds in the city of Surabaya are already full, requiring land clearing again to
fulfill them as burial grounds. The concept of vertical buildings is expected to be a
solution to the problem of limited land. The use of the vertical tomb concept
requires that in the form of medium/high rise buildings, a balance must be made
with the fulfillment of environmental green open spaces. The functional innovation
method is used to obtain renewal by comparing the area of green open spaces in
the Babat Jerawat TPU area to the design mass of the vertical tomb building. The
existence of crematorium buildings and vertical tombs still maintains the
availability of green open spaces on the Babat Jerawat TPU land by 98.06% or
315,354 of the total area of 321,946m2 and only decreases by 1.94%. Meanwhile,
on the designed site, the remaining green open space availability is 9,460m2 or
around 58.93% of the site area of 16,052m2, in other words, the land used is only
41.07% for the total mass of the building that stands on the ground.
