Abstract

This study aims to formulate an optimization model of the role of universities in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs in religious tourism areas in East Java. The object of this study is entrepreneurial curriculum policy and its implementation in universities. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach since this is a social engineering process to reconstruct a model that includes the stages of: a) identifying the role of universities in order to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs, b) laying out the role of universities in order to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs, c ) formulating an effective model, d) testing the effectiveness of the model, e) evaluating the effectiveness of the model f) improving the optimization model of the role of universities in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs. Data collection is obtained through interviews with the samples sources and closed-ended questionnaires by using purposive sampling technique. The total of the respondents are 27 Head of Study Programs who applied the entrepreneurship curriculum. The modeling process of optimization the role of universities in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs is formulated through focus group discussions from academics and activists from the community who have an interest in studying MSMEs.The results of the study have reconstructed the optimization model of the role of universities in strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs which include the stages of: a) redesigning entrepreneurship curriculum policies, b) integrated curriculum implementation, c) model development. The implementation stage of the integrated curriculum is a strategic program in developing managerial aspects for MSME actors through a series of activities including clinical program , training programs, mentoring programs and MSME development partners, so that the implementation of this program could realize and strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs in religious tourism areas in East Java.
