Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has so many cultural heritages that were born from prehistoric times. Physical relics that exist today are in the form of temple buildings. The temple itself had a main function in its time as a place of worship to gods or as a palace for a kingdom. The existing temples originate from the birth and spread of Hinduism and Buddhism in the archipelago. These two religions are the oldest and the first to enter Indonesia. Most of the temples in Indonesia are located on the island of Java, precisely in the provinces of Central Java and East Java. The locations where the temples were built and erected in these two provinces are adjusted to the distance from the source for the main material. This is because the geographical conditions in which the temples are located are different. The method used in this study is to comparatively compare the data obtained between the temples in East Java and Central Java based on their geographical location. Geographical conditions of an area affect the use of materials in each temple building. Geographical conditions are the main factors in the use of rock materials based on the location built. Each location where the temple is built is always seen by the type of material available around it. In addition, the materials used in the temples in these two provinces were adjusted to the distance factor for ease of mobility during the construction process in ancient times. The location of a temple in these two provinces is also one of the factors in the construction of the temple which is associated with the proximity of material sources.
